Work with Me

One-on-One with Award-Winning Creative Sara Causey

Creative Sounding Board Sessions

Sometimes you don't need another online course.

You don't need another YouTube video.

And you don't need someone promising to "transform your life" in six weeks. (For thousands of dollars!)

Sometimes you simply need an experienced creative who will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, challenge your assumptions when appropriate, and help you think more clearly.

That's what these conversations are for.

Whether you're a writer, artist, illustrator, poet, photographer, musician, filmmaker, or other creative professional, a Creative Sounding Board Session gives you dedicated time to explore your ideas, navigate creative challenges, and gain honest perspective from someone who has built a career in the arts.

This isn't therapy. It isn't a motivational seminar. And it isn't a formula for overnight success.

It's a thoughtful conversation designed to help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Is This Right for You?

These sessions are ideal if you're asking questions like:

  • Am I moving in the right direction?
  • How do I build a sustainable creative career?
  • How can I balance artistic integrity with earning an income?
  • I'm feeling creatively stuck. What now?
  • How do I handle criticism, rejection, or self-doubt?
  • Should I publish traditionally or independently?
  • Is this project worth pursuing?
  • I have several ideas—but which one deserves my attention first?
  • I need an experienced creative to help me think this through.

Common Discussion Topics

Every conversation is different, but common topics include:

  • Creative direction
  • Publishing and the writing life
  • Author branding
  • Artistic confidence
  • Creative burnout
  • Marketing for creatives
  • Building a sustainable creative practice
  • Balancing art and business
  • Career transitions
  • Brainstorming projects
  • Creative decision-making

What You'll Receive

Each Creative Sounding Board Session includes:

✔ A private one-hour Zoom conversation

✔ An honest, thoughtful perspective

✔ A judgment-free space to think aloud

✔ Practical insight drawn from my experience as an author and artist

✔ Encouragement when it's needed

✔ Gentle challenges when they may help you see your situation differently

No scripts.

No canned advice.

No sales pitch.

Just a genuine conversation centered around your creative questions.

What This Session Is Not

To ensure these conversations remain helpful and appropriate, please note that this is not:

  • Therapy or mental health counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Legal advice
  • Financial advice
  • Tax advice
  • Medical advice
  • Business consulting
  • Accountability coaching
  • Manuscript editing
  • A guarantee of publication or commercial success

If you're looking for someone to tell you exactly what to do, I'm probably not the right fit.

If you're looking for an experienced creative who will help you think more clearly, ask meaningful questions, and offer honest perspective, I'd be delighted to talk with you.

Before Your Session

Please come prepared with one or two topics you'd like to explore.

These conversations aren't scripted, but they're most rewarding when we have a clear starting point.

My Philosophy

I've spent years building a creative career as an author, artist, speaker, and researcher.

One lesson I've learned is this: The best creative breakthroughs rarely (if ever) come from someone handing us a perfect blueprint.

More often, they come from thoughtful conversation.

From asking better questions.

From seeing familiar problems from a different angle.

That's the purpose of these sessions.

Not to tell you what your creative life should look like, but to help you discover the path that feels most authentic to you.

Availability

Creative Sounding Board Sessions are offered on a limited basis throughout the year as my writing and publishing schedule allows.

Project Review Sessions

Professional Feedback for Writers, Artists, and Creative Professionals

Sometimes you're too close to your own work.

You've revised it dozens of times.

You've stared at it for weeks—or months or maybe even years.

You know something isn't quite right, but you can't quite put your finger on it.

Or perhaps you're feeling confident about your project and simply want thoughtful feedback before moving forward.

A Project Review gives you an experienced second set of eyes.

Whether you're developing a manuscript, refining your author platform, preparing an illustration portfolio, or evaluating a creative project, we'll spend an hour discussing your work, identifying strengths, exploring opportunities for improvement, and helping you determine your next best steps.

My goal isn't to make your work sound like mine.

My goal is to help your work become the strongest version of itself.

Projects I Can Review With You

Examples include:

  • Book concepts
  • Manuscript excerpts
  • Children's books
  • Memoirs
  • Nonfiction proposals
  • Author websites
  • Artist portfolios
  • Creative branding
  • Marketing materials
  • Book descriptions
  • Social media strategy
  • Presentation ideas
  • Creative business concepts

If you're unsure whether your project is appropriate, simply ask before booking.

What You'll Receive

Each Project Review includes:

✔ A private one-hour Zoom conversation

✔ Thoughtful, constructive feedback

✔ Honest observations about what's working well

✔ Suggestions for strengthening your project

✔ Practical recommendations for next steps

✔ The opportunity to ask questions throughout the discussion

This is a collaborative conversation, not a lecture.

What I Need From You

You don't need to send materials in advance. We'll look at them together during our Zoom session.

Please choose one primary topic for each session. If you have several unrelated questions, you're welcome to book additional sessions in the future.

What This Review Is

✔ Professional feedback

✔ Honest perspective

✔ Constructive discussion

✔ Strategic suggestions

✔ Encouragement where appropriate

✔ Respect for your creative vision

What This Review Is Not

This service does not include:

  • Copyediting
  • Proofreading
  • Ghostwriting
  • Book formatting
  • Graphic design
  • Website development
  • Marketing management
  • Query letter writing
  • Grant writing
  • Publishing guarantees
  • Legal advice
  • Hard prescriptive language ("No one likes this," "There is no audience," "Don't ever use that color," etc.)
  • Ongoing consulting

I won't rewrite your work for you.

Instead, I'll help you recognize possible opportunities to strengthen it while preserving your unique voice and creative vision.

My Philosophy

Every creative project reaches a point where another thoughtful perspective becomes valuable.

Not because someone else has all the answers—

—but because we're often too close to our own work to see it objectively.

Throughout my career as an award-winning author, artist, speaker, and entrepreneur, I've learned that meaningful feedback isn't about tearing work apart.

It's about helping creators recognize both what's already working and what might become even stronger.

That's the approach I bring to every Project Review.

Before You Book

Please come with questions you'd like us to address regarding one project.

For example:

  • Does this concept make sense?
  • Is my opening chapter engaging?
  • Is my website communicating the right message?
  • Does my branding reflect who I am?
  • What would you strengthen before I publish / display / submit?

The more focused your questions, the more valuable our conversation will be.

FAQs

Think of it this way:

Choose a Creative Sounding Board if you are the focus.

These sessions are designed for broad conversations about your creative life, career, or ideas.

Examples include:

  • "I'm feeling creatively stuck."
  • "Should I write another book or focus on marketing?"
  • "I'm thinking about leaving my day job."
  • "I'm struggling with confidence."
  • "How do I balance creativity with earning a living?"
  • "Can we brainstorm this idea together?"

A Creative Sounding Board session is about gaining perspective and thinking through decisions.

Choose a Project Review if your work is the focus.

These sessions are designed for discussing one specific creative project.

Examples include:

  • "Can we look at my first chapter?"
  • "I'd like feedback on my author website."
  • "Can we discuss my portfolio?"
  • "I'd like another set of eyes on this illustration."
  • "Does this marketing idea make sense?"
  • "Can we review my book description?"

A Project Review focuses on the project itself rather than broader career questions.

Still not sure which to choose?

A simple rule of thumb:

If your first sentence begins with...

"I'm trying to figure out..."

...book a Creative Sounding Board session.

If it begins with...

"Can you look at..."

...book a Project Review.
